Armando Bacot named ACC Player of the Week in consecutive weeks
Armando Bacot has been named the Player of the Week in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the second consecutive week.
North Carolina junior center Armando Bacot has been crowned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week. It’s the second time that Bacot has won the league’s top weekly honor in as many weeks.
Bacot and the Tar Heels played just one game last week, but that was all it took for the third-year big man to claim the award in consecutive weeks for the first time since former UNC point guard Joel Berry accomplished the feat in January of 2017.
Bacot’s award comes on the heels of an outstanding outing against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets that propelled his team to an 88-65 victory, their 12th of the season and fourth in conference play. He scored 29 points, tying his career-high set the week prior against the Virginia Cavaliers, and pulled down 12 rebounds.
Bacot connected on 10-of-16 shots for the game and an unbelievable 9-of-9 at the free throw line. He scored 20 of his game-high 29 points in the second half, and became the first Tar Heel to score 29 or more points in consecutive games since Tyler Hansbrough in 2008. It marked Bacot’s seventh straight double-double and 12th of the season.
Bacot is averaging 17.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, and shooting the ball at an outstanding 64 percent clip. He’s also averaging 1.6 assists, 1.4 blocks and nearly one steal per game, and turning the ball over just 1.8 times an outing.
He’s one of a handful of players that should be considered main contenders for Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year.
