UNC Basketball program showing interest in 2024 recruit with family ties to program
By Zack Pearson
The UNC basketball program could have another Felton on their roster in the near future in terms of a recruiting target.
Class of 2024 combo guard Jahseem Felton is starting to make a name for himself on the recruiting circuit and his stock continues to rise. The Rock Hill, South Carolina native is the cousin of both Raymond Felton and Jaleek Felton, two former Tar Heels.
The 6-foot-5, 175-pound prospect has a total of six offers early in his recruitment with Florida, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Appalachian State, South Alabama, and Wake Forest offering. But they aren’t the only ones getting involved.
Per the Fayetteville Observer, Felton is also gaining some interest from North Carolina and N.C. State here recently:
"Two prominent in-state programs have also entered the picture, as Felton told the USA TODAY Network that UNC and N.C. State have reached out to express interest. The general message from Hubert Davis and Kevin Keatts’ coaching staffs: “Just letting me know that they know where I’m at and they see me.”"
Now, coaches cannot directly contact sophomore prospects directly until after June 15th which would wrap up the school year. But prospects can visit schools and coaches can go to practices and communicate through coaches. And judging by that quote above, UNC likes what they have seen so far and he’s on their radar.
UNC has just one offer out to a 2024 prospect, that going to Jarin Stevenson earlier this year but they have shown interest in a few in-state prospects. As time goes on, it makes sense for the Tar Heels to get involved with Felton, especially with his family connections.
Jahseem is off to a hot start for Gaston Christian this season, averaging 14.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He’s shooting 50 percent from the field and 30 percent on three-pointers.
