The future is bright in terms of recruiting for the UNC basketball program with the 2022 and 2023 classes. Hubert Davis is off to a great start in with recruiting in his first year as the head coach for the program.

In 2023, the Tar Heels have just one recruit committed but it’s a big one.

Five-star guard Simeon Wilcher pledged his commitment to the program in October during Late Night With Hubert Davis. The commitment surprised UNC during the event but was a good start to the class and they have hopes of adding another five-star with GG Jackson.

But for Wilcher, his stock continues to rise here in his junior season and on Friday he earned some recognition.

Wilcher was one of 25 high school players named to the midseason 2022 Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Boys team. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding boys’ and girls’ prep basketball player who achieves tremendous on-court success.

Before the season starts, they release their preseason list and then trim it down throughout the year before naming finalists and then a winner.  Wilcher is the lone UNC recruit on the list, while Duke leads the way with four on the list followed by Kentucky and UCLA who each have two.

Wilcher is off to a great start this season and is playing some of his best basketball of his high school career right now. He had a stretch last week where he recorded a triple-double and then followed it up with a double-double, leading Roselle Catholic to a 3-0 week.

The recruit’s stock continues to rise and he could make a move in the recruiting rankings when they are updated for the 2023 class. But for now, UNC has to be pleased with what Wilcher is doing.
