Retirement has been good to former UNC basketball head coach Roy Williams.

He’s spent time golfing, watching UNC games and around is family since he announced his retirement in April. On Tuesday, Williams was in Kansas as he made his return to Allen Fieldhouse for the first time since 2003 when he was coaching the Jayhawks. The former Kansas head coach got a standing ovation and a video tribute which was awesome to see.

And now, he’s visiting another old friend on Wednesday night.

Williams is set to be in attendance for Michigan State’s home game against Minnesota in the Breslin Center. The Spartans announced the news via their Twitter account with a video of Williams and Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo:

Izzo and Williams are close friends and have a relationship that goes back years. They remain close to this day even with UNC beating Michigan State for a national title back in 2009. Obviously, Michigan State fans are probably upset about that but it doesn’t take away that both Izzo and Williams have tremendous respect for each other.

The two met 9 times in their careers with Williams holding the edge at 7-2 all time. Izzo even released a statement praising Williams following his retirement back in April, calling him one of the greatest coaches of all time.

It’s unknown where Williams will head to after this trip to East Lansing, if anywhere. But we expect to see him back at UNC games very soon.
