What was once a highly-anticipated season for the UNC Football program here in 2021 ended with disappointment in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on Thursday.  The Tar Heels loss to South Carolina dropped them to 6-7 overall to end the year as for some, it’s finally over.

With the season over, UNC is starting preparation for next season. And while they welcome in a top 10 class, there will be some roster turnover as well.

So far, we’ve seen a few players announce they are transferring out and won’t be back next year. And on Friday, a member of the secondary announced he was not returning.

Senior defensive back Trey Morrison took to social media to reveal he won’t return and will use his graduate year of eligibility somewhere else.

Morrison spent four seasons at UNC, starting at three positions including safety and defensive back for the Tar Heels.

He started in 10 games at nickel for the Tar Heels as a freshman in 2018. In 2021, started every game for UNC splitting time between safety and nickel due to injuries in the secondary. He showed his versatility being able to play multiple positions and was valuable for the Tar Heels in the secondary.

He was named All-ACC honorable mention following his junior season in 2020 after a fantastic year with a shortened season due to COVID-19. With a hole in the secondary, UNC could turn to the transfer portal as well to try and find some replacements for next season.
