The pursuit for a five-star target in the 2023 class continues on for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program.

With North Carolina wrapping up non-conference play, the focus shifts to conference play in the final few months of the season. But that doesn’t mean recruiting takes a back seat.

Prior to their game against Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic on Saturday, Davis and his staff made a stop to watch one of the top prospects in the 2023 class, forward G.G. Jackson. Per the Fayetteville Observer, the Tar Heels were in on Friday to see Jackson play in the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.

"A day before falling 98-69 to the Wildcats in the CBS Sports Classic, Davis and his three lead assistants ventured to a nearby private school gym and watched their top uncommitted 2023 target go to work.Ahead of his team’s games in the Tarkanian Classic, considered one of the country’s premiere holiday tournaments, Jackson picked up two more 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions to choose UNC."

The timing of UNC’s trip to Las Vegas couldn’t have been more perfect in terms of lining up with Jackson also being there. Jackson has become UNC’s top target in the 2023 class with guard Simeon Wilcher already committed. The Tar Heels have missed out on a few other recruits including Robert Dillingham and London Johnson, with just four other active offers out.

The prospects of UNC landing another player seem to lay solely on Jackson’s decision which should be coming sometime in Spring 2022. The South Carolina native is quickly gaining more and more national attention and is on the path to potentially being the No. 1 player in the 2023 class.

And with that, his recruitment continues to heat up.

UNC appears to be battling a trio of other teams including Duke, South Carolina, and Georgetown in this recruitment. He’s taken visits to Georgetown and South Carolina and does have one to Duke lined up as well. But UNC does appear to be in great shape for him, leading the way in the 247Sports crystal ball predictor.
