UNC Basketball Recruiting: 4-star Guard cuts Tar Heels from list
By Zack Pearson
You can cross a UNC basketball recruiting target off the list for the 2023 class, as a four-star guard has made an update to his recruitment.
With a decision looming in the coming weeks, four-star guard London Johnson is set to focus on six teams moving forward and with that, he eliminated North Carolina in the process. Johnson is now focusing on Georgia, Virginia, NC State, Clemson, USC, and Alabama moving forward in his recruitment.
The recruit talked to Rivals to update his recruitment, the timeline and the teams involved, and here is what he had to say about the three Atlantic Coast Conference teams involved.
"Clemson: “I have a good connection with the coaches. They have a lot of graduating guards coming up. They signed some big men, so now they need some guards.”NC State: “I like coach [Kevin] Keatts and coach [Roy] Roberson. I have a good connection with them as well. I feel like they are pretty loaded at guard right now.”Virginia: “I like coach [Tony] Bennett and coach [Jason] Williford. We have a great connection, and I could see myself fitting in there. On film, they showed me how I could fit into what they do.”"
As for North Carolina, their priority in the 2023 class remains with five-star forward G.G. Jackson out of South Carolina. The Tar Heels already have a guard in Simeon Wilcher committed for the class and will be looking to address the post with future recruits.
Hubert Davis and his staff do have four active offers out right now but only Jackson appears to be a legit interest for UNC as they are rumored to be behind in the recruitments for other prospects that have offers. Losing Johnson isn’t the end of the world but we do expect Davis to extend more offers out in 2023 as we continue on here to try and fill out the class.
