UNC Basketball Recruiting: Top target sets visit to Blue Blood rival
By Zack Pearson
It doesn’t look like the UNC basketball program’s top recruiting target in the 2023 class is set to make his decision anytime soon. In fact, it appears as if he wants to check out their arch-rival Duke before making that decision in his recruitment.
Five-star forward G.G. Jackson out of South Carolina has already taken a few visits in his recruitment including one to UNC and one to Georgetown. But in January, he will head to Durham for what could be a key visit in his recruitment.
Per Travis Branham of 247Sports, Jackson will take his official visit to Duke on January 21st, the recruit and his father confirm:
Now, this isn’t anything new because Jackson has said in the past that he is planning more visits including one to Duke. The Blue Devils have also been in to see him as well to watch him play, showing significant interest. The thing that is bad for UNC is the timing.
Jackson will wait until January to visit Duke and for UNC, which means this recruitment will last until then. The worry is that the Blue Devils do enough to impress Jackson and he could offer a verbal commitment or make his decision right away. That’s the worst-case scenario for the Tar Heels in this situation.
Still, UNC does appear to be the team that experts think he will pick. The Tar Heels have landed a total of four crystal ball predictions on 247Sports including three from national recruiting analysts and one from a Duke writer.
But this visit still has to happen and I have the feeling that it will make Jackson’s decision one way or another. Let’s just hope it goes UNC’s way.
