UNC Basketball Recruiting: Top target dishes on Tar Heels’ visit, recruitment
By Zack Pearson
The push for a five-star recruiting target continues on for Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program. With UNC riding a five-game win streak, recruiting is still a big factor for the future of the Tar Heels’ program.
And right there at the top is five-star forward G.G. Jackson.
The South Carolina native is undoubtedly North Carolina’s top target in the 2023 recruiting class, one in which they have five-star guard Simeon Wilcher committed. Jackson received his offer from UNC earlier this year and since then, the Tar Heels have made a lot of progress.
Jackson has been on UNC’s campus a few times including for an official visit. At one point, the Tar Heels were considered the strong favorite and while that still might be the case, the recruit is hearing from other programs including Duke, Georgetown, and in-state South Carolina.
The recruit caught up with Rivals reporter Jamie Shaw to talk about his visits and where he’s at in his recruitment. Here is what Jackson had to say about his UNC visit and the program in general:
"“I didn’t really learn anything on that visit I didn’t already know, but being around the program, the work ethic was more than what I expected. They were up early; they have 24-hour access to the gym; the conditioning is really hard. I feel like the playing style for my spot opened my eyes; a versatile in and out type of player.”"
Jackson went on to talk about the Hoyas, Blue Devils, Gamecocks, Virginia Cavaliers, Auburn Tigers, Virginia Tech Hokies, and N.C. State Wolfpack. He also revealed that he is going to visit Duke and Virginia sometime real soon.
As for a decision? Jackson appears to be taking his time and says he doesn’t know when he wants to commit and mentioned “nothing too close” to end his statement. It appears as if this recruitment is going a little longer which could be good or bad news.
