Grading every UNC basketball player for their performance against the Elon Phoenix

Georgia Tech | Michigan | UNC Asheville | Tennessee | Purdue | College of Charleston

The Tar Heels got off to another slow start on Saturday night when they took on the Elon Phoenix of the Colonial Athletic Association.

In one of their final non-conference tune-up games of the season, before the bulk of their Atlantic Coast Conference slate begins, the Tar Heels struggled through much of the first half. They led just 31-27 with 3:25 remaining on the clock before the intermission. They closed out the opening half on a 6-2 run that gave them an eight-point advantage midway through the game.

They played better in the second half, led by Caleb Love and Dawson Garcia, and their lead grew to 17 points on several occasions. That 17-point advantage ended up being the final spread, as the outmatched Phoenix simply couldn’t compete with the Tar Heels; Love and Garcia in particular.

They make up two-thirds of the Tar Heels who came out of the Elon matchup with an “A.” We’ll look at what they did to set the curve, and check out those who didn’t walk away from Saturday’s test with such high marks.
