Hubert Davis has put in some really good work for the UNC Basketball program in terms of recruiting since he took the job back in the Spring.

Davis was able to keep both of UNC’s 2021 recruits while signing a 2022 class that has four members in it. For 2023, Davis was able to land a commitment from five-star guard Simeon Wilcher and he has his eyes on a few other big prospects.

Among them is Chicago native J.J. Taylor, a five-star small forward that is ranked among the best in the 2023 class at No. 5 overall per 247Sports.  Taylor recently transferred to play at Donda Academy in California but is still hearing from some of the top programs in the country with his 16 offers.

But where do things stand right now? It appears as if Taylor is in no rush to make a decision and his recruitment could last a while.

Taylor spoke to Jacob Polacheck of Zag’s Blog recently to break down his recruitment and the latest. He revealed that he’s taking his time and still has a long ways to go:

"“I really put that under the radar because we just started the season,” Taylor said. “It’s too much pressure right now. I still have two years.”"

Taylor also broke down what he wants in a program that bests fits him:

"“Just getting me better with development and how their players get better there,” he said. “Also, the history. I’m looking at the history of the program and if they send people to the NBA.”"

Taylor has a total of 16 offers in his recruitment including from UNC, Duke, Kentucky, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, and Arizona among others. He took a visit to Kentucky back in October, his only official so far. But with plenty of time left in his recruitment we imagine he will be taking more visits moving forward.
