UNC football recruiting is at an elite level, and currently ranks eighth in the nation just two weeks ahead of National Signing Day.

The North Carolina football program is in the midst of a recruiting renaissance, evidenced by their top-15 rank nationally in each of the past three seasons. Their 2022 class, in particular, is ranked eighth in the nation and boasts one of the best collections of talent in the history of the program.

That’s thanks, in large part, to the commitments they got from five-star prospects Travis Shaw and Zach Rice, two of the most highly-touted high school players in the nation. Shaw is the No. 4 prospect in the 2022 class and ranks second among defensive linemen. Rice is ranked slightly lower overall at No. 9, but is the top-rated offensive lineman in the country.

The Tar Heels also have commitments from nine four-star prospects in the class led by standout wide receiver Andre Greene. The Richmond, Virginia native is the 71st-ranked recruit in the nation, and ninth among players at his position. Six of the Tar Heels’ other eight four-star recruits are ranked among the top 250 prospects. Mack Brown and company round out their current 16-man class with a handful of three-star recruits including Clover Hill edge rusher Bryson Jennings.

Notable programs that North Carolina is currently ahead of in the 2022 class rankings include Oregon (9), Clemson (10), Oklahoma (11), LSU (15) and Michigan (17). They’re ranked just behind Penn State, Ohio State and Texas, who rank fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M and Notre Dame are currently ranked one through four.
