The UNC Basketball program ended their two game losing streak on Tuesday night with a win over UNC-Asheville. That was the good news.

The bad news? Despite it being a win, the Tar Heels were once again very sloppy and if not for the Bulldogs being a bad shooting, team UNC might have found themselves at 3-3 instead of 4-2. And that performance came after the Tar Heels looked awful over the weekend in losses to Purdue and Tennessee.

After that performance, UNC was criticized by two college hoops analysts and a NBA draft scout saying that the team was selfish. That may have been hard to hear but after how UNC played, the criticism is fair.

Following this win over UNC-Asheville, a current player also had some harsh yet true words about this team. Forward Brady Manek spoked to reporters after the win and while he was glad to get the win and end the losing streak but he knows that this team has to get better moving forward.

“We’ve got to get better, plain and simple. I don’t know what it is, but we’ve got to play better,” Manek said via Inside Carolina. “That’s about it. I don’t know if it’s we’ve got to come together more, we’ve just got to play basketball, I don’t know. We’ve got to play better. Should have beat them by a lot more than what we did. And we’ve just got to play better. And for me, I played okay.”

The thing is, Manek isn’t wrong and did a good job of speaking the truth.

In the win over the Bulldogs, UNC turned the ball over 18 times and were very sloppy throughout the game. While they did have the lead throughout the game, they never really put it away when they had chances. The Bulldogs cut the lead down to eight at one point but aside from that they didn’t threaten to tie it.

The Bulldogs also shot poorly from the field which is another factor to consider.

UNC does have a tough schedule still remaining hosting Michigan and then taking on UCLA later in December. If they don’t clean it up, they could be looking at some more bad losses. Thankfully for them, there’s time to clean it up and get better.

Next. Grading UNC in their win on Tuesday. dark
