The UNC basketball program suffered their first two losses of the season over the weekend at the Hall of Fame Tip-off, falling to Purdue and Tennessee at the event moving their record to 3-2 on the year.

The now unranked Tar Heels fought hard against Purdue but just didn’t have the depth in the paint to finish. But Sunday’s loss to Tennessee was inexcusable as UNC struggled on defense, giving up layup after layup as they watched the Volunteers build a double-digit lead.

And two analysts plus an NBA Draft analyst had some harsh words for Hubert Davis’ squad after they gave up 21 layups and 89 points to Tennessee.

Rob Dauster and Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 Podcast broke down UNC’s play over the weekend and called them “A bunch of selfish dudes”, giving a harsh yet true evaluation of what they saw in the two games.

“They don’t talk, they don’t even look like.. I hate to say this but they don’t look like they have any bond with one another. There’s no like togetherness,” Goodman said.

Dauster then added this:

“You know what an NBA scout said to me today? He said he doesn’t like to watch North Carolina because it’s a bunch of selfish dudes out there.”

OUCH.

Goodman went on to say that there is no toughness with this team and it’s not the first time they have questioned their toughness. You can watch the full video here with the UNC talk picking up about the 1:00 mark:

Now, this is just two analysts (and a scout) talking but what they said at least watching UNC over the weekend really isn’t that wrong.

This team has struggled to play together and show that toughness that fans want to see, especially on the defensive end of the floor. When the Tar Heels faced their biggest tests of the season, they failed.

Let’s just hope they got it out of their system and can correct this sooner rather than later.
