UNC Basketball Alumni: Coby White’s fourth quarter leads Bulls past Knicks
By Zack Pearson
It’s been a slow start to his third season for former UNC Basketball standout Coby White. The point guard suffered a shoulder injury in the offseason forcing him to miss all of training camp, preseason and the first few games for the Chicago Bulls.
But even with his return last week, White struggled to get going early in games. That changed on Sunday.
Coming off the bench, White scored 14 points in the game with 10 of those coming in the fourth quarter to help the Bulls beat the New York Knicks 109-103. White’s performance was huge as the Bulls outscored the Knicks 37-29 in that fourth quarter as they entered trailing.
The win moved Chicago to 12-5 on the season as they are one of the biggest surprises, leading the NBA’s Eastern Conference here in late November. While White hasn’t been able to consistently make an impact, Sunday’s game is a step in the right direction.
Powered by Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, the Bulls have been able to win some big games down the stretch. White’s role this year is to come off the bench and be an instant scorer, something he did last night. It was a perfect situation for White to excel in and is something that is a major need for the Bulls this season, as they have a lack of scoring options off the bench.
White will have another chance to make an impact on Monday night as the Bulls host the Indiana Pacers.
