Mack Brown and the UNC Football program are preparing for the final few weeks of the season here in November but on Wednesday night, they got a big boost for the future of the program.

Four-star wide receiver and Top 100 overall player Andre Greene verbally committed to North Carolina, ending his recruitment. The Virginia native picked UNC over Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson on a segment on CBSSports HQ.

The two teams have battled for months for the chance to add the talented recruit out of Virginia and Greene even took a visit to Clemson over the weekend. But even with a visit that impressed him, it wasn’t enough to overcome UNC’s lead and he becomes the latest and likely final piece to Brown’s 2022 class.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Greene is rated as a four-star receiver and the No. 74 overall recruit, No. 9 wide receiver and No. 3 player in the state of Virginia per the 247Sports rankings. He earned a total of 58 offers and made three official visits. Georgia was another team that hung around in the recruitment but in the end it was the Tar Heels and Tigers with UNC taking it.

Greene joins a loaded UNC class that is ranked inside the Top 10 nationally and No. 1 in the ACC as of now. They have two five-star commits in Travis Shaw and Zach Rice, with Greene being the third-best player in this class.

For Brown and his staff being able to land talent like Greene and recently Rice too, has been huge especially out of the state of Virginia.

Of UNC’s 16 players committed, 7 of those players are from the state of Virginia. UNC is winning battles and establishing that pipeline in the state, setting up their program for success in future years.

The next step for the program is signing their class in a few weeks for Early Signing Day.
