UNC Football: Tar Heels heading to Boston in latest bowl projections?
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Football program is set to play in their final two regular season games of the year, needing one win to become bowl eligible. Standing in their way of a bowl game is a bad Wofford team as well as an N.C. State team that needs some help getting to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.
If UNC can beat Wofford, which many expect them to do, the Tar Heels will go bowling which seems like a small accomplishment in a season that has been lost after high expectations.
With just the two weeks to go, outlets are updating their bowl predictions and one spot UNC is being mocked to is Boston. Brad Crawford of 247Sports released his updated bowl projections and he has the Tar Heels squaring off against SMU in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl.
The annual bowl game is played in Boston at Fenway Park and is a pretty neat experience for players and fans. The matchup is also interesting as well, with the American Athletic Conference’s SMU as the challenge for Mack Brown and his team.
The Mustangs are currently third in the AAC with an 8-2 record and Cincinnati left on their schedule.
Crawford isn’t the only one with the Tar Heels going to Boston either. ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura has the Tar Heels in the bowl but up against Central Florida instead. Bonagura’s co-analyst Mark Schlabach in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte against Tennessee which would be another interesting matchup and a rematch of the 2010 Music City Bowl.
A lot of things will change and UNC does have to win at least one more game to be bowl eligible but this is something to watch down the stretch as the season closes out.
