With the NBA season in full swing, a few former UNC Basketball players are already making an impact. But for one former Tar Heel, his season hasn’t started yet and he’s itching to get back on the court.

Guard Coby White is entering his third season with the Chicago Bulls after being selected as a lottery pick a few years back. With the Bulls off to a 6-2 start, they have been one of the big surprises in the NBA this season. However, White has yet to play a minute this year as he’s recovering from a shoulder injury that required surgery in the Summer.

The guard hurt his shoulder playing pickup over the Summer and is rehabbing to get back. And the latest news might be encouraging.

Per beat reporter Cody Westerlund, White has taken a step forward in his recovery and will begin doing contact drills:

A few days later, White was spotted doing some work in three on three drills during practice as the Bulls get set to take on Philadelphia on Saturday. White isn’t set to return yet but that’s encouraging that he’s at least participating in that portion of practice.

Going into this season, White was supposed to be a key piece off of Chicago’s bench and bring a scoring element to that second team. With the Bulls acquiring Lonzo Ball, White would be leading the second team and perhaps find his groove. Now, he’s hoping to get on the court and make an impact sooner than later.

Next. Harrison Barnes continues hot streak. dark
