UNC Basketball: 5-star names top 5 without Tar Heels
By Zack Pearson
A former UNC Basketball recruiting target has made a big update to his recruitment, and it doesn’t involve the Tar Heels.
Class of 2023 five-star guard Robert Dillingham was once thought of a heavy lean for North Carolina, receiving his offer from the Tar Heels and Roy Williams on Christmas in 2020. But since then the interest from UNC has tapered off.
And now they are officially eliminated.
Dillingham cut his list of 21 offers down to a final five and will focus on the following teams in his recruitment: Kentucky, LSU, Memphis, N.C. State and Kansas as he announced via Twitter on Wednesday night:
The 6-foot-1, 160-pound Dillingham is a Charlotte native who played his sophomore season at Combine Academy. He then announced he was transferring to Donda Academy in California, the school created by Kanye West.
While UNC was heavily involved for Dillingham just months ago, things took a bit of a turn after Hubert Davis was announced as head coach. The Tar Heels kept the pursuit on but the interest faded after a while and eventually it was all gone. This just made it “official” as he will focus on this list of schools.
The Tar Heels do have one commitment in the 2023 class so far with Simeon Wilcher committing and have turned their attention to landing G.G. Jackson. If UNC can get both, their 2023 class will be in great shape moving forward.
