UNC basketball’s Dawson Garcia has been named to this season’s Karl Malone Award Watch list.

North Carolina sophomore power forward Dawson Garcia is one of 20 players named to the Karl Malone Award Watch list leading up to the 2021-22 college basketball season.

The award is given to the nation’s top power forward each season. Recent recipients of the award include Gonzaga’s Drew Timme, Dayton’s Obi Toppin, Duke’s Zion Williamson and Arizona’s Deandre Ayton. The annual award is in its eighth year, and is voted on by a national committee of top college basketball personnel.

He scored double-digit points in 17-of-27 games as a freshman, scored 20 or more points on six occasions and recorded three double-doubles.

Starting Five Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies went live on Friday, October 22. The list will be narrowed to 10 players in late January, and to just five in late February. The following month, the five finalists will be presented to Karl Malone, and he and his Hall-of-Fame selection committee will select a winner.
