The UNC Basketball program picked up their first commitment in the 2023 class as five-star guard Simeon Wilcher pledged his commitment with a surprise during Late Night with Hubert Davis.

The commitment of Wilcher gives UNC a really good start in the 2023 class, one that Davis hopes is a huge one in his first year as head coach. UNC does have several top recruits left on their recruiting board and now Wilcher is taking it upon himself to help recruit others to North Carolina.

In his latest blog with the Sports Illustrated, Wilcher discussed committing to North Carolina this past week and how he’s hoping to recruit five-star target G.G. Jackson to the program as well. Here is what Wilcher said on the situation:

"I’m the first commit for 2023, but I definitely want to do my part to help to get some other top players. Right now, I’m trying to get G.G. Jackson. He went on a visit there last week, so that’s who I’m working on."

Jackson is becoming a priority recruit for North Carolina as Davis has started to put the full court press on the talented product out of South Carolina. UNC has recently visited Jackson at his high school and then the recruit took his official to North Carolina during the Late Night With Hubert event.

The talented forward would be a great fit for what UNC wants to do and he’s a legit scorer at the position, something UNC has struggled with the past few seasons.

Jackson is ranked No. 10 overall, the No. 3 power forward and No. 1 player in the state of South Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. He has a total of 13 offers and if UNC wants to land him, they are going to need to beat out both Duke and South Carolina, two programs that are also putting the full court press on him.
