UNC Basketball: Tar Heels offer intriguing in-state power forward in 2024 class
By Zack Pearson
Hubert Davis and his UNC Basketball staff have their first big recruiting target in the 2024 class and they have officially entered the race.
Power forward Jarin Stevenson announced via Twitter that he has landed an offer from North Carolina, just a few days after he unofficially visited on Saturday. Stevenson took in the football game and even grabbed a photo with former head coach Roy Williams who was being honored at halftime.
The 6-foot-8-inch, 190-pound Stevenson has now picked up his first offer in his recruitment coming from in-state North Carolina. Virginia and Wake Forest have also shown interest and will likely extend an offer down the line.
The Chapel Hill native is getting set to enter his sophomore year at Seaforth High School in Pittsboro and his recruitment should really start to take off nationally in the coming months.
Stevenson also has a connection to UNC as his mother, Nicole Walker Stevenson, played college basketball there under Sylvia Hatchell. His father, Jarod Stevenson, played at Richmond in the 1990’s and even matched up against the Tar Heels in his career.
The forward is a very intriguing prospect that drew interest from UNC early in the Summer with Davis watching him. From there, it was clear UNC would get involved for the prospect and an offer was coming down the line.
He even drew some praise from Rivals.com recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw over the Summer:
"“The 6-foot-8 Stevenson is tracking as the top prospect in North Carolina’s 2024 class and has the look someone whose recruitment will reach a national level, soon,” Shaw wrote. “With his court vision, motor and understanding of how to score at each level, any college coach who watched the game was sure to highlight Stevenson’s name on the roster.”"
It’s still VERY early in Stevenson’s recruitment but with an in-state program like UNC offering him, they are considered a legit threat. We will continue to monitor Stevenson’s recruitment moving forward with UNC’s involvement.
