One prospect is quickly climbing the UNC Basketball program’s big board for the 2023 recruiting class.

Five-star power forward G.G. Jackson is becoming a priority recruit for Hubert Davis as he looks to lock down his first commitment in the 2023 cycle. After having a four-man class with the 2022 cycle, Davis and his staff need to build on it and turn in another impressive class.

And landing a player like Jackson would certainly help.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Columbia, South Carolina native is ranked No. 16 overall, the No. 3 power forward and No. 1 player in the state per the 247Sports composite rankings. He has a total of 13 offers including one from North Carolina and his recruitment appears to be gaining more popularity.

Jackson has been visited by UNC, Duke, NC State, Georgetown, South Carolina and Virginia among others over the past week or so as things are starting to pick up. With coaches allowed to visit for practices, Jackson caught up with Rivals.com reporter Jamie Shaw to break down what each program is telling him and how his recruitment is going.

That included UNC where he told Shaw that Davis and assistant Jeff Lobo are making him a priority in this class:

"“(Assistant) coach (Jeff) Lebo and coach (Hubert) Davis have been the ones recruiting me, and they have been good to me. When they came to see me the other day they told me I was their No. 1 priority, so that made me feel pretty good.”"

North Carolina has yet to land a commitment in the 2023 cycle but there’s no need to panic as it’s still VERY early. They have begun to identify their top targets with Jackson and five-star guard Robert Dillingham leading the way.

Ideally, Davis wants to be able to land a player like Dillingham who is an in-state recruit and another five-star like Jackson who is nearby in South Carolina. But there is a long ways to go in this recruitment and things are picking up rapidly.
