Five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher discusses his high-profile recruitment, and the budding relationship he has with Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program.

Similar to a number of other programs, the North Carolina Tar Heels have their sights firmly set on five-star class of 2023 prospect Simeon Wilcher. A 6-foot-4, 185-pound combo guard that hails from Roselle, New Jersey, Wilcher is among the most highly sought-after recruits in his class, evidenced by the nearly two-dozen scholarship offers he’s holding.

Among the programs on Wilcher’s offer sheet are Arkansas, Auburn, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Memphis, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas Tech and UCLA. North Carolina joined the lot of them with an offer the first week of September. And given how much time is left in his recruitment, a number of other high-profile basketball programs are likely to join the mix.

Wilcher talked specifically about the Tar Heels in a recent interview with 247Sports’ Dushawn London, noting that “it feels like a dream” to be recruited by schools like North Carolina.

"“It’s going really well, we’re building on that relationship everyday,” Wilcher told 247Sports. “I actually spoke with coach Lebo and Hubert recently and they’re selling me on their style of play and how many top tier guards have come out of North Carolina. Growing up you always look at the North Carolinas, Dukes, and Kentuckys as those super crazy schools for basketball. It feels like a dream to actually step foot at those schools knowing that you can potentially go there. I’m just looking forward to seeing how it is, the feel, the vibe and everything.”"

There’s no real indication at this point where Wilcher will end up, and there’s plenty of time for things to transpire before he ever makes a commitment or even eliminates schools from his current list. The Cornhuskers could be a program to keep an eye on in the early-goings, though, as Fred Hoiberg and assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih seem to have built some momentum with the rising junior from Roselle Catholic High School.

Wilcher is the No. 11 prospect in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s second among players at his position, and No. 3 in the state of New Jersey. He’s ranked even higher in the Top247 at No. 6, though the Rivals150 has him just 15th overall.
