Former UNC basketball player Jackson Simmons has been elevated in the Charlotte Hornets organization.

Jackson Simmons, former University of North Carolina basketball player, has been promoted to Head Video Coordinator for the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, the organization announced in a press release on Monday.

Simmons served as the team’s Assistant Video Coordinator for the past three seasons prior to his promotion. His previous spot in the organization has been taken over by Klint Carlson and Daniel Dixon, the team announced in a flurry of staffing changes made this week.

Simmons, a Webster, North Carolina native, was a standout at Smoky Mountain High School prior to attending North Carolina. A walk-on for the men’s basketball program in 2011, Simmons earned playing time through his hard work and dedication to the team until graduating in 2015. Former UNC head coach Roy Williams appreciated Simmons’ attitude and work ethic, and trusted him on the court during a number of crucial moments over his final couple of seasons in Chapel Hill.

Simmons appeared in 115 games over four years, and started in two. He scored 129 points and pulled down 119 rebounds while shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor. He scored a career-high eight points on two occasions during his sophomore season; first at Florida State, and then again at Boston College.

After graduation, Simmons was Director of Basketball Operations for Western Carolina for one season before beginning his career in the NBA. The former Tar Heel remains a tremendous ambassador for the Tar Heels as he blazes his path up the ranks of the Hornets organization.
