UNC Basketball: Coby White Injury Update
The 2021-22 NBA hoops season is almost here, and former UNC basketball point guard Coby White is nearing his return.
As NBA teams prepare to open their doors, Chicago Bulls third-year point guard Coby White anticipates his return to the court. The seventh overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft suffered a torn labrum a few months ago when participating in a basketball activity away from the team. White had surgery on his left shoulder on June 10, and has since worked his way back to being close to playing again.
White will be at the training camp, which starts on Tuesday according to Bulls.com.
Even though White is limited to the non-contact parts of training camp, getting his Jordans back on the hardwood is still progress. White has been dependable since his days with the UNC basketball team, and has hype heading into this season. Many anticipate White having a significant role in the offense as he embarks on his third season with Chicago.
White is a key piece to the Bulls’ backcourt puzzle, which had a complete makeover this offseason in acquiring DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso. Ball puts White in the perfect role of providing a spark off the bench next to Caruso. As the leader of the second unit, it would offer White more opportunities to push the tempo and furnish the Chicago Bulls with a reliable offense.
In his first two seasons, White has averaged 28.6 minutes, 14.2 points on 40.6 field goal shooting, and 35 percent shooting from behind the arc. This could be White’s break out year. At least, that’s what he and the Bulls are hoping for.
White it set to return to NBA action in November.
