UNC Football: Tar Heels among early favorites for 2024 DB

Mack Brown and his UNC Football staff are still building an impressive 2022 recruiting class, landing a four-star running back earlier in the week. As it stands now, the 2022 class is ranked No. 13 overall and No. 3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

But with early signing day in December and the cycle wrapping up in 2022, the focus will shift over to the 2023 class and eventually 2024. UNC has already started their pursuit of prospects in the classes including 2024.

Among the targets early on for the Tar Heels in the 2024 class is defensive back Asaad Brown. The four-star recruit is a native of Chesapeake, Virginia that is considered a top 50 player early on in the cycle.

There’s a long ways to go in Brown’s recruitment but already there appears to be a few top programs involved. Among those? North Carolina. Rivals reporter Adam Gorney wrote an update on prospects in future classes including Brown, having this to stay:

"North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, Virginia Tech and NC State are the early frontrunners for the Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith cornerback. Brown was supposed to attend the Penn State Whiteout last weekend, but he needed treatment after his Friday game so he didn’t make to Happy Valley."

As you can see above, UNC has some tough competition early on in this recruitment including from Georgia, Penn State, Virginia Tech, NC State, Arkansas and South Carolina. But UNC has had a recent history of success recruiting in the state of Virginia, pulling out George Pettaway, Tychaun Chapman, Tayon Holloway, Bryson Jennings and Trevyon Green in this class alone. They also landed Tony Grimes a few years back as well.

Brown has done well in Virginia especially with defensive backs coach Dre Bly on the roster. And it wouldn’t surprise us at all if hung around in this race for Brown until the end.
