With Fall right around the corner, recruiting should pick up in the college basketball world. And for the UNC Basketball program, it’s probably their final chance to add to their 2022 class.

On Thursday, coaches were allowed to travel and visit recruiting targets as they watched open gyms ahead of the looming high school season. Hubert Davis was on the road meeting with recruits including a few five-star targets in the 2023 class.

But on Friday, UNC is set to host a big visitor on campus with one final chance to impress him.

Four-star small forward Tyler Nickel is set to officially visit North Carolina beginning on Friday as his recruitment may come to an end soon.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Nickel is one of two serious targets left on North Carolina’s board for the 2022 class, joining Cam Whitmore on that list. Other than that, UNC hasn’t really focused on anyone else as they appear to be content with their current three-man class.

But that doesn’t mean they aren’t putting the full court press on both Nickel and Whitmore.

Nickel visited Virginia Tech last weekend and following his trip to Chapel Hill, he’s scheduled to be in Iowa City to visit the Hawkeyes. Going into this weekend, it appears as if UNC will have some ground to make up with the Hokies holding both of the crystal ball predictions on 247 Sports.

The Elkton, Virginia native appears to be leaning to the Hokies which would be bad news for UNC as they would not only lose out on a talented scorer but would have to face him at least once a year.

Nickel is ranked No. 79 overall,  No. 21 small forward and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
