UNC Basketball: Tar Heels eliminated in race for five-star point guard
By Zack Pearson
Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program now know their fate in the race for a talented five-star point guard in the 2022 class. And that news was bad news for the program.
Five-star point guard Jaden Bradley made a big update to his recruitment on Thursday, cutting his list of 18 offers down to a top five.
The North Carolina native is now set to focus on Kentucky, Arizona, Florida State, Gonzaga and Alabama. That means UNC is officially eliminated from the recruitment and can now focus on other recruits to fill out their 2022 class.
Bradley has been a target of UNC for a long time as the Tar Heels have shown significant interest in the talented guard out of Concord. He transferred to IMG Academy to finish out his career in Florida and since Hubert Davis took over, things got a little stale in the recruitment.
Former assistant Steve Robinson was one of the big leaders in Bradley’s recruitment, establishing a relationship with the Top 20 player dating back to over a year ago. But with Robinson not retained and now employed at Arizona, Bradley has eliminated UNC from his list and not surprisingly, added Arizona.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound guard is ranked No.14 overall, the No. 3 point guard and No. 4 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports composite rankings.
The Tar Heels will now shift their focus to other recruits in the 2022 class as they look to add to that three-man class. UNC seems to have their priority targets on Cam Whitmore and Tyler Nickel hoping to land at least one of those players this Fall. They can also put more attention to 2023 five-star Robert Dillingham, one of the best point guards in his class as well.
