A four-star UNC football target is nearing his college decision, and he’s believed to be favoring the Tar Heels.

Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels are already the proud recipients of seven four-star commitments and a recent pledge from five-star blue chip recruit Travis Shaw, but it appears as if they aren’t quite done yet.

College decisions from a few highly-touted 2022 UNC targets are still on the way, including a trio of Virginia natives in five-star offensive tackle Zach Rice, four-star wide receiver Andre Greene, Jr. and four-star running back George Pettaway.

Pettaway, in particular, is thought to be nearing a decision and subsequent announcement date, one that the Tar Heels figure to play a major part in. A number of college football analysts and insiders even suspect that North Carolina is the current leader in Pettaway’s recruitment, and anticipate an announcement in favor of the Tar Heels sooner or later.

It’s certainly a good sign for North Carolina that 100 percent of Crystal Ball and FutureCast predictions favor the Tar Heels, including that of 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong. If Brown and the Tar Heels do, in fact, win Pettaway’s commitment, they’ll have beaten three respected football programs in the process.

After whittling down his offer sheet of nearly three-dozen schools to a list of four finalists, it was Florida, Oregon and Penn State that joined North Carolina in hoping to land one of the nation’s best back field prospects. The Virginia native took just one official visit to the quartette of schools — that trip was to Penn State — but he visited Chapel Hill twice over the past 12 months. Those trips may end up being the difference in Pettaway’s recruitment, though we’ll have to wait just a bit longer to find out for sure.
