The UNC Basketball program hosted their top remaining recruiting target in the 2022 class over the weekend as four-star prospect Cam Whitmore was on campus.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward has emerged as Hubert Davis’ top target in this 2022 class, the head coaches’ first since taking over for Roy Williams. After landing Will Shaver, Seth Trimble and Jalen Washington this Summer, the Tar Heels are hoping to add at least one more to their class.

And that ideal player is Whitmore.

As a four-star player, Whitmore has a total of 21 offers in his recruitment with teams like Maryland, Villanova, Miami, UNC and Illinois among others hanging around in his top 10 list that he released a few months back. So far, he’s taken visits to UNC, Pittsburgh, Penn State and Maryland this Summer and he has a few more lined up.

Among those visits that are lined up are to Illinois and Miami in the coming weeks. Whitmore will start the first of those two visits this week to the Illini as that program is hosting a big recruiting weekend.

So what does this mean for the Tar Heels? The early word out of Chapel Hill is that the visit went well for the Tar Heels which is certainly a good sign. The thing to watch is that Whitmore is heading to Illinois this week before Miami in early September which could mean he’s ready to make a decision soon.

Back in May, Whitmore told Rivals reporter Jamie Shaw that he will finish taking visits this Summer and plans on a decision for the Fall. That might bode well for the Tar Heels’ chances in this if Illinois or Miami can’t essentially do enough to land a commitment.

Whitmore’s recruitment will certainly be one we will continue to watch as this goes into the Fall.

Next. UNC's chances with 5-star decreasing. dark
