Right now the focus is on the start of the 2021 college football season which kicks off this week with a few matchups. But we can’t help but get excited for the college basketball season and the first year for UNC Basketball head coach Hubert Davis.

And apparently insider Jon Rothstein can’t wait much longer either.

The College Hoops Today insider offered his thoughts on the Atlantic Coast Conference for the upcoming season, ranking each team after a slew of offseason moves. The Duke Blue Devils took the top spot in the rankings but you don’t have to look far for the Tar Heels on the list.

UNC checks in at No. 2 on the list behind only their Blue Blood rival, Duke as Rothstein had high praise for Davis in his first offseason. In the preview, Rothstein revealed who he thinks will be UNC’s starting five:

G Caleb Love
G R.J. Davis
G Kerwin Walton
F Dawson Garcia
C Armando Bacot

That seems to be the general consensus right now although practices wont start fro weeks now, this is the lineup that makes the most sense. It also allows Davis to have Brady Manek, Puff Johnson, Anthony Harris, Dontrez Styles, D’Marco Dunn, Justin McKoy and Leaky Black off of the bench.

Behind UNC, Rothstein has Virginia at No. 3 followed by No. 4 Florida State, and No. 5 Virginia Tech.

Rothstein also had Armando Bacot has a first-team selection with D’Marco Dunn and Dontrez Styles on his All-Freshman team and R.J. Davis and Kerwin Walton on is list of breakout players for the upcoming campaign.

The season is still a ways away but we can’t help but get excited for what it could hold for the Tar Heels and Davis.

Next. UNC eliminated from five-star's list. dark
