Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program entered the race for five-star guard Zion Cruz in July, offering the New Jersey native.

Since then, things have been a little quiet in terms of his recruitment outside of rumblings that he wanted to set up a visit to North Carolina. That visit date hasn’t happened yet and there hasn’t been much on a potential date.

So is UNC still in the race? It’s tough to tell right now and things did look a little grim for their chances when it was reported that Cruz was set to make a decision this week. But the latest news may give UNC some more hope that they can still get involved in this recruitment.

Per recruiting reporter Jeffery Lee of AuburnLiveOn3, Cruz was set to announce on Thursday but has since postponed his decision.

It’s unknown right now why Cruz postponed the decision from Thursday and he hasn’t set a new date yet either.

He has a total of 20 offers so far in his recruitment and has taken two visits as he was on Auburn’s campus June 4th and Oregon’s on June 13th. It was rumored that Auburn was in the lead for the talented guard and that potentially Bruce Pearl was ready to land a big fish in the 2022 class.

Another Auburn reporter also doesn’t think this is a bad thing for the Tigers’ chances in this recruitment either. Right now it does feel like the Tigers are still the favorites and UNC might be fading and at the very least has a very long uphill battle to fight in this recruitment for the talented guard.
