We are still a few months away from basketball season as the Hubert Davis era for the UNC Basketball program will be ushered in. But next week, Air Jordan will pay homage to legendary coach Dean Smith with a special shoe.

Michael Jordan’s iconic Jordan Brand is set to release the latest colorwary for the Jordan Series .01 model and it pays homage to MJ’s college coach in a unique way.

The model features a mix of mix of suede and mesh materials on the shoe and is dressed in a Carolina Blue colorway with white accents and then red on the tongue. It makes sense for it to feature the traditional Carolina Blue colorway with the white but where the shoe really stands out is the details.

The words “Dear Dean” are on both tongues while the words “Swing for the Fence” are on the right insole. It’s rounded off with “There Was Never Any Doubt” and “It Went Down In The Backyard” on the gum sole.

Both Jordan and Smith are iconic in terms of not only the UNC Basketball program but the game of college basketball as well. Playing for the Tar Heels does have its perks with Jordan Brand releasing special edition shoes for players and colorways for fans. And this model is another version of that, allowing fans to honor the late coach.

The shoe is set to drop on August 26th with a retail price tag of $80 and will be available at select retailers across the country as well as Nike.com.

This won’t be the last UNC-inspired shoe from the Jordan Brand line either as we should see some awesome colorways of retro models in the near future as well.
