When Hubert Davis took over as the head coach of the UNC Basketball program for Roy Williams in April, he wasted no time focusing on what’s next for the Tar Heels. That included some big recruiting months this Summer in terms of landing prospects and evaluating others.

Davis took a look at UNC’s recruiting board and established the top targets for the 2022 and 2023 classes. And along the way, communication fell through with other recruits.

One player that was high on UNC’s board and at one time considered a lock to the Tar Heels was four-star forward De’Ante Green. The in-state prospect was high on UNC’s list but as the Summer hit, the momentum wasn’t there for the Tar Heels and the interest didn’t appear to be either.

Green was set to visit UNC in June but rescheduled to August and hasn’t been on campus for a visit yet. That signals that the interest between the two sides as being gone.

With UNC seemingly out of the picture for Green, it’s left an opportunity for other program in state to pick up some steam in the race for the recruit. On Tuesday, the N.C. State Wolfpack picked up a crystal ball prediction on Green from PackPride.com’s Cory Smith. He’s the first prediction for Green to the Wolfpack with the only other prediction going to UNC from Jerry Meyer back in February.

The crystal ball predictor doesn’t guarantee anything as you can see by UNC’s prediction for Green months ago but it’s usually a good indicator that a prospect is leaning a certain way. Green has been on N.C. State’s campus this Summer for a visit and right now the Wolfpack are likely battling Wake Forest, Florida State and Tennessee for Green.
