The pursuit of a four-star small forward in the 2022 recruiting class continues for the UNC Basketball program as Hubert Davis and his staff hope to add to their three-man class.

The Tar Heels have picked up commitments from five-star center Jalen Washington, four-star guard Seth Trimble and three-star Will Shaver. UNC’s three-man class is ranked right near the top of the 2022 rankings as they are off to a great start.

But ideally, the Tar Heels would love to add one if not two more recruits to Davis’ first class as head coach. And one target they have their eyes on is four-star forward Cam Whitmore.

UNC extended an offer to Whitmore back in June and instantly became a legit contender in the recruitment. Whitmore has set an official visit to UNC and the Tar Heels will have the chance to impress him and hopefully land a commitment down the line.

As for the national perspective on Whitmore, the Tar Heels to appear to be a serious threat to land him at least according to one analyst. Eric Bossi of 247Sports wrote on Whitmore in his latest mailbag column as he was asked about UNC’s chances. His response? “They have a very legitimate chance.”

"I don’t want to rule out local programs who have been recruiting him aggressively for a while in Georgetown and Maryland. I also think that Illinois is a program to keep a close eye on when he visits them at the end of August. But, he’s scheduled to see North Carolina the weekend before that. Headed into that visit, I believe that Hubert Davis and the Heels are in pretty good shape. Also, Villanova is still out there and many feel that they are ultimately the team to beat. Can I guarantee Hubert Davis lands Whitmore? Nope. I can’t even predict that just yet. But, UNC appears to have a very legitimate chance in this one and that’s all you can really ask for as they look to add to Davis’ first class."

The Maryland native currently has 21 offers in his recruitment but it appears as if only a few teams are legit contenders. UNC, Georgetown, Maryland, Illinois, and Villanova are the names that are brought up in the recruitment. He’s set to visit UNC next week and will also take a trip to Illinois.

But as Bossi mentions, can any team beat Villanova in this race?
