Former UNC basketball sharpshooter Danny Green has signed a new two-year contract.

Danny Green signed a two-year, $20 million deal on Wednesday night to remain with the Philadelphia 76ers. Green’s new contract comes during what has turned out to be a very quiet offseason and free agency for the 76ers — unless you count the constant chatter and speculation surrounding the team’s many attempts at dealing All-Star guard Ben Simmons.

And speaking of being dealt, I’m a little bit surprised that Green didn’t find a new home for the fourth time in as many seasons following the comments that he made last month regarding Philadelphia fans. He certainly didn’t make many friends during the podcast in which he asserted that 76er fans need to get better about cheering on their team no matter what, and not turning on them when things aren’t going well.

Regardless, he doesn’t seem to have upset the powers that be given the lucrative new agreement that will keep him in the City of Brotherly Love for the foreseeable future. Apparently his performance on the court trumped his off-court comments, and why shouldn’t they?

He started all 69 games that he appeared in, logging 28 minutes per contest and shooting 40.5 percent from three-point range. He averaged 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists to just one turnover, all while playing stingy defense on the other end of the court.

He projects to be one of the team’s best long-range shooters again next season, particularly with the make-up of the current roster and the Ben Simmons-Joel Embiid logjam that’s been going on for the past four years.
