As the calendar flips over to August, the pursuit of a four-star forward in the 2022 recruiting class continues on for Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program.

After offering Cam Whitmore a few weeks back, the Tar Heels have shown significant interest in the recruit and even watched him a few times during the evaluation period. But now, the Tar Heels are going to get their shot to win him over and potentially land a commitment down the line.

With the July evaluation periods over, Whitmore is now ready to start taking official visits and has scheduled three so far. Per Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan, Whitmore will be on UNC’s campus from August 22-23. In addition to UNC, Whitmore will also visit Illinois from August 28-29 and then Miami from September 4-5t.

The recruit previously took an official to Maryland and an unofficial to Villanova earlier in the Summer.

This is great news for North Carolina, a team that made his top 10 list after he trimmed his total of 20 offers down to finalists. And now, the Tar Heels appear to be a legit contender in this race to land the forward as we get set to enter the Fall months and a busy time for recruiting.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward out of Severn, Maryland is rated as a four-star prospect and is ranked No. 55 overall,  No. 15 forward and the No. 2 player in the state of Maryland per the 247Sports composite rankings.

His top 10 list includes Georgetown, Maryland, Notre Dame, Illinois, Villanova, Florida, Penn State, North Carolina, Miami and Louisville. As of now, there is no set decision date for Whitmore and we imagine it could come sometime this Fall or Winter after he takes his visits and gets a good feel for each school.
