The UNC Football program received great news on Wednesday afternoon, landing four-star inside linebacker Sebastian Cheeks. The Illinois native picked the Tar Heels over Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon and Wisconsin, becoming the 12th player to commit to UNC’s 2022 class.

But they also potentially received more good news in the form of another recruit.

Ohio State commit Benji Gosnell revealed that he is reopening his recruitment and decommitted from the Buckeyes’ program. The move came on Wednesday, as Gosnell is now officially back on the market and UNC could be a program to watch in this recruitment again.

Gosnell tweeted the following message:

“This has been very hard. I’m thankful for the opportunity OSU has given me and the class they have shown throughout this tough decision. But after thorough discussion with my family, I have decommitted from Ohio State and opened up my recruitment.”

The tight end was the seventh player to commit to Ohio State in the 2022 class, doing so in November of 2020. But sine then, things have changed for the Pilot Mountain, North Carolina native and he will have some more time to visit with programs.

It’s early but we’d be shocked in UNC wasn’t involved again for Gosnell. He picked up an offer from UNC in 2019 and made a few unofficial visits to campus before committing to Ohio State. With UNC’s 2022 class ranked No. 17, adding Gosnell would boost that class and give them a legit tight end prospect.

Gosnell is rated as a four-star prospect that is ranked No. 319 nationally, No. 13 tight end and the No. 10 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings.
