Former UNC basketball player Andrew Platek went off for 50 points in a recent summer league game.

Andrew Platek’s days on a college basketball court may be over, but he’s apparently still got some gas left in the tank. Playing in a summer league game for Team Different on Monday night, Platek scorched the nets for 50 points.

No seriously, Platek dropped a 50-piece on the opponent to lead his team to victory and keep them undefeated at three wins and zero losses. In a video that was filmed from the sidelines, the former Tar Heel can be seen hitting shots all over the court. During his scoring barrage, Platek knocked down 11 three-pointers. Eleven.

For reference, Platek hit 46 three-pointers in 127 appearances during his time in Chapel Hill. That’s equal to 0.36 made threes per game over the four-year span. And his 50 points on Monday night were nearly half as much as he had in each of his last two collegiate seasons — 121 and 107, respectively — and more than he scored his entire sophomore season (35). Over the course of his career, he averaged 2.6 points per game, with his highest scoring output coming as a junior during the 2019-20 season (3.9 points per game).

Former UNC head coach Roy Williams repeatedly told us that Platek consistently hit shots in practice, but it somehow rarely translated to the actual games. Nobody ever questioned Platek’s dedication or work ethic, though, so it’s nice to see the young man performing well at any level and on any court.

Here’s to Mr. Platek, a true Tar Heel, as we wish him the best of luck on and off the court, and in all of his future endeavors.
