UNC Basketball: Tar Heels’ 2022 recruiting class could look a lot like this
Isaac Traudt
Isaac Traudt is another UNC target that ranks among the best players at his position in the class of 2022. A 6-foot-9, 205-pound power forward out of Grand Island, Nebraska, Traudt has continued to impress coaches and scouts on the recruiting trail over the past year or so, which is roughly the amount of time that it took him to gather the majority of his 30-plus scholarship offers.
Traudt’s distinguished offer sheet features a number of the top basketball programs in the nation, including Creighton, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin. He also holds offers from rising programs such as Drake and Georgetown, as well as an offer from the hometown favorite Nebraska Cornhuskers. And the Huskers, for one, shouldn’t be taken lightly in this particular recruitment. Fred Hoiberg and company have done a nice job recruiting the superb big man from Grand Island Senior High School.
The good news for North Carolina, as it relates to the Traudt recruitment, is that first-year head coach Hubert Davis and his staff appear to have positioned themselves rather nicely for a potential commitment from one of the best front court prospects in the country — though the recent additions of Jalen Washington and Will Shaver probably don’t help their chances. Traudt did talk highly of the Tar Heels in a June interview with Stockrisers’ Jake Weingarten, though, noting his excitement to meet and get to know Davis and his assistants.
Traudt did just that during an official visit to Chapel Hill in late June following trips to Creighton, Nebraska, Virginia and Michigan State — all of whom are considered major players in his recruitment. We also know that Traudt plans to visit Oklahoma State this fall, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he stopped in Austin to visit the University of Texas, a school that extended him an offer in mid-July.
Traudt is the No. 60 prospect in the 247Sports Composite for 2022. He’s the ninth-ranked power forward in the class, and No. 1 in the state of Nebraska. He’s ranked similarly in the Rivals150 at 67th overall, and No. 10 at his position.
