Cam Whitmore

4-star small forward Cam Whitmore joined a growing list of UNC targets in late June, and he seems to have as much interest in the Tar Heels as they do in him. He spoke highly of them and their new-look coaching staff in a July interview, noting his budding relationship with Hubert Davis, who’s arguably the hottest coach in America on the recruiting trail.

And speaking of lists, Whitmore has one with 10 finalists on it, many of which rank among the top basketball programs in the nation. Despite having 10 schools still in the running for his commitment, however, Whitmore recently stated that he’s focusing on what he calls his “main six” — a group comprised of Georgetown, Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, Notre Dame and North Carolina.

The entire North Carolina coaching staff was on hand two weekends ago at the Peach Jam in North Augusta, South Carolina where they watched Whitmore put on an outstanding performance. So, too, were a number of coaches from Whitmore’s other finalists, as they saw the rising senior do exactly what he’s done so many times in recent months.

In his first game of the weekend, Whitmore scored 23 points on a 10-for-14 shooting performance, and he followed it up with a 16-point, six-rebound showing in the second game of the day. He had another good outing on Sunday when he tallied a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double. He hit 7-of-13 shots for the game and 2-of-3 from three-point range, and also dished out three assists.

Whitmore, a senior at Archbishop Spalding in Severn, Maryland, is ranked 55th in the class of 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s 15th among small forwards in his class, and No. 2 in the state of Maryland. He’s ranked even higher in the Top247 at No. 30, and seventh among wings.
