The UNC Football program has added another recruit to their 2022 class, landing another commitment on Thursday afternoon.

Mack Brown and his staff received some good news when four-star in-state running back Omarion Hampton made the decision to commit to North Carolina on a special live stream on CBSHQ. The commitment is another big one for the Tar Heels, giving them 11 commitments in the 2022 class and their third in the month of July already.

Hampton picked the Tar Heels over offers from Florida, Penn State, and Auburn among others in his recruitment. His three finalists were UNC, Florida and Penn State. While he received a lot of attention from some big programs, in the end staying home and playing for the Tar Heels was too much to pass up.

The Clayton, North Carolina native is rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 144 overall recruit, No. 12 running back and No. 4 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports composite rankings.

He’s now UNC’s highest-ranked recruit at No. 144 overall, passing up defensive back Tayon Holloway.

Hampton took visits to all four programs mentioned above and was on UNC’s campus on June 25th. The visit was enough to win over the talented recruit and keep him in state as he’s the third North Carolina product to commit to the Tar Heels’ 2022 class.

With the addition of Hampton, UNC’s class now moves up into the top 30 overall on 247Sports, being previously ranked at No. 33. It’s been a bit of a slower start but with recruiting restrictions lifted, it’s allowed for a more normal cycle the past two months and that’s helped the Tar Heels land some commmitments.

But the push isn’t over, either. UNC still has offers out to several recruits including some five-star prospects that they appear to be a legit contender for.
