The pursuit of 2022 recruiting prospects continues on for Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program here in July.

The Tar Heels currently have a three-man class, holding commitments from Jalen Washington, Seth Trimble and Will Shaver. That 2022 class is currently ranked No. 1 overall and the Tar Heels don’t appear to be done adding to it.

UNC has offers out for over 10 recruits as it stands right now, looking to add at least one more player to the class. Among those targets is five-star star combo guard Nick Smith out of Arkansas. The talented guard received an offer from UNC last year under Roy Williams and it was carried over to Davis, who honored the offer.

But how has UNC’s relationship with the recruit been since Davis took over? Apparently it has gone well.

Smith caught up with Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers recently to talk about his recruitment and the teams involved. Among them are the Tar Heels as Smith says he’s built a relationship with Davis over the past few months:

"“It’s very cool just talking to Hubert Davis and the staff and they’re just great people. We built a relationship ever since coach Roy retired so yeah it’s cool.”"

That’s certainly good news especially with the Tar Heels looking to add another wing player in their 2022 class.

Smith has taken official visits so far but has yet to hit Chapel Hill. He hinted that he could be taking more this Fall and does have some planned for Arkansas and Oklahoma in September. That will be something to watch in terms of the interest from the recruit with UNC. If he takes a visit, the Tar Heels appear to be a legit candidate in the recruitment.
