UNC Basketball: Tar Heels offer rising five-star guard in 2022 class
By Zack Pearson
Hubert Davis and the UNC Basketball program have their eyes on a rising prospect in the 2022 recruiting class and have taken the next step in pursuing him.
After showing interest in five-star guard Zion Cruz a few weeks back, Davis and his staff have seen enough to now offer him a scholarship. News broke on Wednesday that the guard has officially received a scholarship from the Tar Heels:

The offer comes just a day before the live evaluation period in July is set to begin for college recruits. With June being a big month for visits and individual high school showcases, July will allow coaches to evaluate on the recruiting trail at AAU events and there are a lot in the coming month.
Per Inside Carolina, Davis hopped on the phone with Cruz Tuesday night to chat with the talented recruit and the conversation ended in the offer. Cruz is the 16th player in total to receive an offer from UNC in the 2022 class with two players committing to the Tar Heels, others committing elsewhere and some still undecided.
The 6-foot-5,175-pound Cruz has a total of 20 offers in his recruitment so far and has taken two visits this Summer. He’s ranked No. 20 overall, the No. 3 combo guard and the No. 1 player in the state of New Jersey per the 247Sports recruiting rankings. Programs like Alabama, Arizona State, Florida State, Oregon, Illinois and Ohio State are some of the teams that have offered him.
With UNC now officially offering the recruit, we should keep an eye on a potential visit date possibly in the Summer and Fall. In addition, it will be interesting to see how much Davis and his staff watch Cruz during the live evaluation period this Summer.
