UNC Basketball: Tar Heels showing new interest in 4-star 2022 prospect
By Zack Pearson
There is still a long ways to go in the 2022 recruiting class but with two commitments for the UNC Basketball program, they are off to a great start in Hubert Davis’ first class as head coach.
In the month of June, Davis and his staff welcomed a good amount of visitors on campus for officials as they continue to pursue multiple targets. But now the Tar Heels may have a new target on their radar for the 2022 class.
Per Andrew Slater of Pro Insight, the Tar Heels have begun to reach out to power forward Alex Karaban out of New Hamsphire:

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound forward out of New Hampton High School is ranked as a Top 100 recruit on 247Sports and a Top 50 recruit on ESPN. On 247Sports, he’s No. 90 overall, No. 15 power forward and the No. 1 player in the state of New Hampshire. ESPN does have him ranked a little higher at 46 overall.
Karaban has a total of 21 offers in his recruitment, drawing interest from Northwestern, Penn State, Boston College, UCONN, Marquette, Indiana and LSU among other teams. And now we can add UNC to the list despite the Tar Heels not offering, yet.
With a center and a guard committed, Hubert Davis would love to add a big post player to the class for the 2022 cycle. With Armando Bacot likely leaving after his junior year and Brady Manek only having a year of eligibility left, UNC has some holes to fill in the post. They have some big targets in the class and now we can add Karaban to that list.
As UNC shows interest, we will continue to monitor Karaban’s recruitment moving forward and how involved the Tar Heels do get in the coming months.
