Hubert Davis and his UNC Basketball staff were back on the recruiting trail this weekend and while they spent last weekend on the East Coast, the crew was in the Midwest to watch a five-star prospect.

Davis was spotted in Carmel, Indiana watching five-star power forward Jalen Washington for most of the weekend. The Gary native was participating in the Charlie Hughes Shootout over the weekend and drew the attention of the UNC coaches as well as others.

In his first game back in action since suffering a knee injury, Washington scored 24 points for Gary West Side:

Joining Davis in watching the recruit was Matt Painter (Purdue) and assistants from Indiana, Ole Miss, Clemson, and Michigan among others. Washington is certainly drawing a lot of attention and returning to the court will have the focus on him even more.

Washington is rated as a five-star recruit in the 2022 class, ranking No. 19 nationally, No. 4 power forward and the No. 1 player in the state of Indiana per the 247 Sports composite recruiting rankings.  So far in his recruitment, Washington has a total of 13 offers and has taken a few visits. He was on UNC’s campus on June 2nd and took a trip out West to see Stanford on June 12th.

But even without visiting all of the programs interested, Washington is still being targeted by other teams.

It’s still very early to say who is the favorite for Washington right now in his recruitment, however it does appear is showing a lot of serious interest. Getting him on campus early was a good thing and now evaluating him on the recruiting trail also helps. It does appear that the Tar Heels have Washington high on their recruiting board for the 2022 class.
