Mack Brown and the UNC Football program have added to their 2022 recruiting class, landing  another piece to their defense on Friday afternoon.

Three-star linebacker Deuce Caldwell officially pledged his verbal commitment to the Tar Heels on Friday, ending his recruitment. The decision comes just a week after the talented linebacker visited Chapel Hill for his official visit.

That visit put the Tar Heels ahead and Caldwell felt like it was time to commit.

Caldwell becomes the sixth player to join North Carolina’s 2022 class which is currently ranked No. 42 nationally. The Mauldin, South Carolina product is ranked No. 1,079 overall, the No. 112 linebacker and the No. 16 player in the state of South Carolina per the 247 Sports Composite rankings.

He had a total of 20 offers in his recruitment and picked UNC over Duke, Baylor, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Minnesota, West Virginia, South Florida and Central Florida, all programs who offered him in his recruitment. The lone visit in his recruitment was to UNC and he was set to take a trip to UCF on June 25th.

While Caldwell is from South Carolina, he has some connections to the state of North Carolina as well. His father is from North Carolina and he still has family there. Plus, he has an interesting tie to UNC as his cousin is former Tar Heels’ basketball standout Theo Pinson.

Brown and his staff have now landed two recruits here in the month of June as recruiting restrictions have been lifted. But there’s the potential to land even more especially with another big recruiting weekend on tap in terms of visits. The Tar Heels are hosting several recruits this weekend, the final one allowed until September.
