UNC Basketball: 4-star PG Seth Trimble set to announce college decision
4-star point guard and UNC basketball target Seth Trimble will announce his college decision on Wednesday.
Seth Trimble, brother of former North Carolina basketball standout J.P. Tokoto, is set to announce his college decision on Wednesday. Trimble, who’s fresh off a visit with the Michigan Wolverines last week, picked up his UNC offer from first-year head coach Hubert Davis just over a month ago, and he’s one of just two point guards in the class of 2022 that currently hold an offer from the Tar Heels.
And it’s those two programs — Michigan and North Carolina — that many believe Trimble’s decision will come down to. One thing that may hurt the Wolverines’ chances with Trimble is the commitment they received from 4-star point guard Dug McDaniel just two days after Trimble finished his official visit in Ann Arbor.
The Tar Heels, on the other hand, are likely to need a new floor general next season, assuming that former 5-star recruit and rising sophomore point guard Caleb Love leaves the college ranks in favor of the NBA in 2022. And even if he doesn’t, it seems unlikely that he would stay beyond his junior season, paving the way for a sophomore Seth Trimble to take the reins in Chapel Hill.
Outside of Michigan and North Carolina, Trimble has offers from Arizona State, Creighton, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Missouri, USC and Wisconsin, among others. It’s still the Wolverines and Tar Heels that I favor in his recruitment, though, with Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels having an edge over Juwan Howard and company. Current predictions on 247Sports and Rivals are split between the two basketball powerhouses.
Trimble offers a versatile skill set and plenty of upside for whatever program he ends up with. He’s built well for his position, and has tremendous athleticism. He’s a good shooter and slasher, with the latter being his true forte. He gets to the rim with efficiency, and finishes well in traffic. He’s a good ball-handler and distributor, rebounds well for his size and should be able to guard multiple positions at the college level.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior guard is ranked 54th in the 247Sports Composite, having improved 42 spots from No. 96 in July of 2020. Similarly, Trimble saw his ranking improve from No. 109 to No. 34 in the latest Rivals150 rankings. He’s now a consensus top-10 player at his position, and No. 1 in the state of Wisconsin.
