The UNC basketball program is heavily favored in the recruitment of 5-star point guard Robert Dillingham, but the Duke Blue Devils are doing their best to change that.

The North Carolina Tar Heels are considered by many to be the prohibitive favorites to land 5-star point guard Robert Dillingham. The class of 2023 prospect received his UNC offer back in December of 2020 when Hall-of-Famer Roy Williams was still at the helm.

In the months since the three-time national title-winner’s surprising retirement, however, first-year head coach Hubert Davis and his revamped staff have continued to grow the relationship with Dillingham that began with Williams. By all accounts, it appears to be working, and the Tar Heels will keep pushing for a commitment from a player that is in the conversation for best floor general in the nation.

Dillingham’s tremendous skill and potential haven’t gone unnoticed by fellow ACC program and crosstown rival Duke, however, as the Blue Devils reached out to the junior point guard on Wednesday. So, too, did the Kansas Jayhawks, turning Dillingham’s recruitment into a full-blown blue blood affair.

The 6-foot-1-inch, 160-pound Dillingham has also added scholarship offers from Tennessee and Texas in recent weeks, and his list of schools will undoubtedly multiply over the coming year. And his popularity on the recruiting trail makes sense, what with his versatile skill set and high ceiling. He can do it all from a back court perspective, dribbling, driving, shooting and distributing as a lead guard. He can shoot from inside and outside the three-point line, and he’s a terrific finisher around the rim.

Dillingham is the No. 11 prospect in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite for 2023. He’s second among point guards, and No. 2 in the state of North Carolina. He’s ranked slightly higher at No. 8 overall in the Rivals150.
